Sweet Island Rum
Sweet Island is an organic fair trade infused rum with ingredients sourced from Madagascar. A love letter to my favorite island, the product and design are inspired by my experience there as a Peace Corps volunteer (2009–11). Infused rum, or rhum arrangé as it is called, is a potent and flavorful spirit commonly found in bars and pubs across the country.
The main tree image is the ravinala, or traveler's palm, which is the national emblem of Madagascar.
The landscape illustration and the texture of the label are based on beautiful printed textiles referred to as lambahoany. They can be found relatively inexpensive in markets, which means you can find them in use virtually everywhere—worn as sarongs or shawls, for decorative wall hangings or tablecloths, for carrying other materials, even as sails for small fishing boats.
